Playtech has announced its entry into Alberta’s newly regulated online gaming market, marking a significant step in the company’s North American expansion. The provider will support a roster of licensed operator partners as the province opens its regulated iGaming sector under the framework established by the iGaming Alberta Act and the AGLC’s iGaming Standards.

Operators in Alberta will gain access to a selection of Playtech’s Casino and Live titles, including games that have already demonstrated strong player engagement in other regulated North American markets. Among the titles mentioned are Adventures Beyond Wonderland, Mega Fire Blaze Roulette, and the popular slot Oink Oink Oink. The company intends to broaden its offering over time as the market matures.

Shimon Akad, Playtech Chief Operating Officer, commented: “Entering Alberta’s regulated iGaming market on its first day is a significant milestone for Playtech’s North American expansion strategy. We are pleased to be supporting our partners with some of our strongest-performing content and are committed to working closely with them as the market evolves, broadening our offering and helping them deliver engaging player experiences to support their long-term success.”

The launch builds on Playtech’s existing presence in Canada, having first entered the Ontario market on its first day of regulated opening in 2022. The company’s experience in established jurisdictions provides a foundation for growth in Alberta.

Charmaine Hogan, Global Head of Government Relations at Playtech, highlighted the importance of player protection: “Alberta has set a strong regulatory foundation for its iGaming market, and the establishment of a centralised self-exclusion system is a particularly welcome step in safeguarding players. Well-designed regulation, underpinned by meaningful player protection tools, is what allows regulated markets to thrive and channel players away from the black market. We will continue to work constructively with the Alberta iGaming Corporation and industry partners as the market matures.”

As the Alberta online gaming sector opens, Playtech’s entry brings a mix of established content and regulatory expertise, reinforcing its commitment to the North American market. The company has not yet disclosed specific operator partners or the full game roadmap for the province.
